Marcasite - Kleeberg quarry, Münster, Germany

This impressive marcasite specimen comes from the Kleeberg quarry near Münster, North Rhine-Westphalia. The site is known among collectors for its interesting sulphide formations in clayey-marly sediments of the Upper Jurassic - finds like this one are rare and are characterized by their clear crystallization and geological significance.

Crystal structure and appearance

The piece shows a dense aggregation of radiating to flaky marcasite crystals. Some crystals show the “cockscomb” formations typical of marcasite, which are particularly prized by collectors.

Play of color and texture

The color of the specimen is lead-grey - an effect that is intensified by the fine crystalline surface. The slightly oxidized areas create an interesting look and underline the natural formation of the mineral.

A piece of local geology with collector's value

Marcasite finds from the Kleeberg have become rare due to limited accessibility and the now restricted excavation activity. This specimen not only documents a classic sulphide mineral from Germany, but also represents a beautiful, decorative collector's item with a local geological reference - ideal for lovers of German minerals.
