This spectacular fluorite from the Denton Mine clearly stands out from classic fluorite specimens thanks to its extraordinary crystal morphology and its multi-layered variety of colors and structures. Instead of clearly formed cubic crystals, this piece displays a complex, almost sculptural aggregate of crystal faces that combine to form a dynamic, organic-looking overall shape. In terms of color, the fluorite combines delicate lavender and violet tones with warm, honey-to-amber hues, lending the piece an unusual depth and warmth. Presented on a custom-made pedestal, this specimen becomes an impressive, one-of-a-kind piece with a strong aesthetic expression.

Properties

  • The crystal formation of this fluorite is remarkably complex. Layered crystal sections, some of which appear transparent, alternate with denser areas, creating a multi-layered surface with a strong plastic effect. The structure shows alternating growth phases, which are clearly reflected in both the texture and the color distribution.
  • The color palette ranges from cool, slightly violet tones to warm, brownish-golden hues, which occur mainly on the inside and along certain growth lines. This unusual combination gives the piece a rare visual tension.
  • Despite its complex surface structure, fluorite sometimes has a pleasant translucency. When illuminated from the side or from behind, internal zoning, fine crystal layers, and transparent transitions become visible, giving the piece depth and liveliness.
  • The specially designed base ensures stability and supports the natural alignment of the piece without distracting from its complex shape and structure.

Origin

The Denton Mine is part of the famous Southern Illinois Fluorspar District and is known for its particularly attractive fluorite varieties. Specimens with such complex crystal formations and warm color zoning are relatively rare and are prized by collectors for their individuality and high recognition value.

Aesthitcs

This fluorite is impressive not so much for its geometric precision as for its lively, almost organic appearance. The interlocking crystal faces, the varying degrees of transparency, and the color combination give the piece a strong sculptural effect. It appears raw and yet finely structured—a specimen that invites not only contemplation but also exploration.
