Experience the fascinating beauty of an extraordinary collector's item: fluorite with sphalerite from the legendary Elmwood Mine in Tennessee, USA. This famous site, known for its first-class mineral finds, is now closed, which makes the piece offered here all the more desirable. Such combinations of minerals are coveted worldwide and inspire collectors all over the world.

Unique combination of fluorite and sphalerite

This specimen is an impressive example of the characteristic minerals from the Elmwood Mine. The sphalerite forms the basis of this piece and is characteristically dark and shiny, showing a fascinating reflection when exposed to light. The surface of the sphalerite is smooth and gives the entire specimen an elegant appearance. The real attraction sits enthroned on this dark, shiny base: several beautifully crystallized fluorite cubes that have grown harmoniously into one another.

At the top of the piece are three fluorite cubes that have grown together in perfect symmetry. These cubes are colored in different shades and display an impressive transparency that allows the light to shine through. The crystals have fine zonings that enhance the depth of color and range from intense to paler tones. The zoning creates a fascinating visual effect, which varies between bright and soft colors depending on the incidence of light.

At the lower end of the sphalerite, on both sides, there are further crystallized fluorite cubes. These crystals have a translucent quality and appear almost ethereal when the light shines through them. The clearly defined edges and the perfect shape of the cubes underline the high quality of this specimen and make it a collector's item.

The closed Elmwood refill

The Elmwood Mine in Tennessee is one of the most famous mining sites in the USA. Originally known for mining zinc, the mine quickly developed into a world-renowned source of exceptional minerals such as fluorite, sphalerite, calcite and barite. The mine was closed, making the minerals found there all the more desirable. Nowadays, Elmwood finds are very popular and have a high collector's value, especially when it comes to pieces with such a perfect combination of fluorite and sphalerite.
