A scenic journey – across the Alps to Turin
Our trip to Turin began early in the morning with a long but fantastically beautiful drive that took us through the breathtaking mountain scenery of Austria and South Tyrol. The journey was a real experience for the senses – the majestic Alps, the lush green valleys and the charming little villages clinging to the slopes passed by like a painting. The city of Milan, which we passed on the motorway, was particularly memorable for its grace. After many hours, we finally reached our destination: the vibrant and historic city of Turin.
Adventurous arrival – right in the heart of the city
Our arrival in Turin was, as befits Italy, a little adventure. Immediately we were greeted by the Italian temperament of the city – honking cars, friendly people talking loudly across the street, and the lively bustle in the piazzas, which overwhelmed us in a pleasant way. Our apartment was right in the heart of the city, in a neighbourhood that offered us a real insight into the daily life of the people of Turin. The little bakeries, which smelled of fresh pastries in the morning, and the friendly conversations of the neighbours – the feeling of being right in the middle of the vibrant life of such a historic city was incomparable.
Sparkling treasures and espresso – the Mineralexpo in Turin
Our first day was all about the Mineralexpo Turin, one of the highlights of our trip. We entered the exhibition hall with anticipation and were immediately drawn into the world of sparkling gemstones and rare minerals. The organisation of the fair was flawless, and the stands offered an impressive variety of treasures. We had the opportunity not only to meet up with old friends but also to meet new dealers who shared their fascinating stories with us. In particular, a magnificent tourmaline from the Lollipop Pocket range caught our eye – a true gem that we were happy to add to our private collection.
In addition to all the dazzling exhibits, the fair also convinced us in culinary terms: there were delicious specialities at the stands that we didn't want to miss. And of course, we couldn't forget the obligatory espresso – and the best part was that for a mere €1.20 we enjoyed an authentic Italian espresso that tasted better than you could ever imagine for that price! It was an all-round successful experience that enriched us with new impressions, treasures and an extra portion of caffeine.
Culture and nature – a day in the heart of Turin
On the second day, we devoted ourselves to the sights of Turin and let ourselves be enchanted by the city's culture and history. We started our morning with a relaxing stroll through the sprawling Parco del Valentino, where we were able to enjoy the beauty of nature in the middle of the city. The trusting squirrels were a highlight – so peaceful and curious that they allowed themselves to be petted, which gave us great joy. After that, we continued on to the magnificent Palazzo Reale, the former seat of the Savoy dynasty soon as we entered the palace, we felt transported to another time. The opulent rooms, the artistic paintings and the seemingly endless collection of historical artworks and relics left us in awe. A visit to the art museum in the Palazzo was a feast for the senses – every corner of the building seemed to tell stories that had survived the centuries.
Luxury and la dolce vita
In the afternoon, we strolled through the famous Via Roma, Turin's luxury shopping street, lined with elegant boutiques and high-end stores. We enjoyed the touch of Italian luxury and the elegance in the air. We topped off the evening with a traditional Italian dinner with friends. The authentic dishes – from fresh pasta to regional delicacies – tantalised our taste buds. It wasn't just a culinary highlight, but also an evening full of warmth and laughter that gave us a taste of the Italian ‘la dolce vita’ at its best.
A wistful farewell – the journey home through breathtaking landscapes
The third day finally brought us back to reality as we began our journey home. The drive back was exhausting and gruelling due to the heavy traffic, but the views of the mountain scenery that we had already admired on the outward journey made up for every delay. Despite the exhausting drive home, we looked back on the weekend with a satisfied smile.
Conclusion
Turin enchanted us with its diversity, historical richness and modern vibrancy. It was a journey full of unforgettable moments that enriched us not only culturally but also as people. We are already looking forward to our next visit, when we will certainly delve even deeper into the heart of this fascinating city.
