Our trip to the mineral show in Sainte-Marie-Aux-Mines was an unforgettable experience. The show, held annually in this small and charming French town, is a paradise for mineral collectors and enthusiasts from all over the world. It is a destination that not only delights mineral collectors but also offers exciting landscapes, culinary delights, and rich history.
In this blog post, I would like to share my experiences and highlights of this exciting trip with you.
Preparation and arrival
The preparation for the trip began weeks in advance. With great anticipation, we booked our accommodation in the picturesque wine town of Riquewihr, which is just a 20-minute drive from Sainte-Marie-Aux-Mines. This small town in the Upper Alsace boasts a charming old town from the 16th century that is almost completely preserved. It feels like stepping back in time.
First impressions
Upon arriving at our main destination, Sainte-Marie-Aux-Mines, I immediately felt the unique atmosphere of this small and winding town. The streets were already bustling with diligent vendors who had set up their booths and were just as excited as we were. The show itself spans several halls and outdoor areas each year, with fascinating minerals to discover everywhere.
Main Event
The show offered an impressive variety of exhibitors from around the world. You could find everything from polished minerals, jewelry, and gemstones to raw minerals and unique collector's pieces. A definite highlight was the exhibition in the theater, where various dealers showcased exquisite minerals in their display cases, available for both admiration and purchase. Additionally, the discussions on the latest finds and techniques were extremely informative and enriching.
Today It could rain, storm, or snow...
The weather in Sainte-Marie-Aux-Mines was, as always, very variable. Just like the diversity of minerals at the show, the weather displayed its many different faces. It was either extremely hot or pouring rain. These weather conditions are typical for the region and should always be taken into account when planning a visit. Despite these fluctuations, the atmosphere and charm of the show remained as captivating as ever.
Experiences beyond the Show
Aside from the show, Sainte-Marie-Aux-Mines and the nearby small towns offered several charming cafés and restaurants where we enjoyed the local cuisine with friends. French cuisine remains one of my absolute favorites! After a hot day at the show, it was just what we needed.
Conclusion
The trip to the show in Sainte-Marie-Aux-Mines was a complete success. The variety and quality of the minerals on display, the reunion with friends, and the picturesque surroundings made this visit an unforgettable experience. I am already looking forward to next year and highly recommend this show to every mineral collector.
