This smoky quartz Gwindel from the Cavradi Gorge in Switzerland is an exceptional rarity in the world of alpine minerals. Its twisted crystal shape (“Gwindel”) and smoky-brown color make it one of the most sought-after forms of quartz. Such pieces are only created under special pressure and temperature conditions in the high Alpine mountains.
